Waylon Wyatt Brings The Honkytonk to Los Angeles

Waylon Wyatt's two sold out shows at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles this past week left the audience eager for more live music! Opened by Jack Van Cleaf and his acoustic set, the venue was packed to the brim with standing room only. Just 19 years old, Wyatt’s well-earned rapid rise to stardom has led to a sold-out whopping 32-stop tour! And after you see him live, you'll understand exactly why!

The Out Of The Blue Tour, named after his 6-song EP, kicked off in September and is set to set to run through the end of this month. Wyatt started the show Thursday night, with “Your Whereabouts” a song off his first EP Til The Sun Goes Down. He followed with “Pretty Little Liar”, his latest release, accompanied by a harmonica. Never one to shy away from a cover, Wyatt put his own spin on “Drivin’ My Life Away”. A couple of songs later, he played “Sunday Supper”, his collaboration with Bayker Blankenship, and, as at every show, pulled someone up from the crowd to sing with him; this time, he included two young men from the crowd.

The most memorable moment of the night featured only Waylon and his fellow guitarist, performing “Phoning Heaven", the song dedicated to his older brother who passed away. He took the time to highlight the importance of mental health and suicide awareness before playing the song. Wyatt also shouted out his father, Charley, a staple in the Waylon Wyatt fanbase, as he is Wyatt’s biggest fan, having attended every single one of his concerts.

Later, Wyatt played “OD” drawing on the eagerness of the crowd, clapping and chanting along. Waylon continued with his first live performance of “Frostbite” which came out earlier that same night.

Wyatt brought another crowd member on stage, this time a young woman, to perform Willow Avalon’s part in their song “Smoke and Embers”. (The next night, he brought out his girlfriend to perform the part of Willow.) Spreading the love throughout all his family and friends, Wyatt brought onstage his childhood friend, who ironically had been working the merch booth all night long. He joked that despite being close friends, he never could get him to like country music, so his friend played guitar while Wyatt and Jack Van Cleaf sang a cover of “Mr. Brightside”.

Wyatt left the crowd ready for more as he walked off stage, but thankfully, he quickly returned for an incredible encore of two of his biggest songs, “Jailbreak” and "Everything Under the Sun”. Wyatt did not leave fans wanting for anything, from crowd participation and fan performances to conversing with the audience and acknowledging their handmade signs. His show was a perfect mix of twang, upbeat songs, and soul-wrenching lyrics; between him and his band, Waylon Wyatt brought his greatest show to the theatre.
